Unthawing 11-20-2024

Dear Heavenly Father,

A week from tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Help me to more deeply understand and appreciate what this time and day is, and should be about. I’m afraid there are years when I am more concerned about ensuring the turkey, or turkeys and unthawed and ready than is my own heart.

This year, please help me to look at the cold or frozen areas of my thinking, my thoughts and my heart. Help me to focus and restore relationships, friendships and acquittances that have fallen by the wayside due to our fragile human traits of envy, petty differences, different social or political views and the entire gamut of human emotions that too often divide us.

Life in the movie The Grinch, when he finally saw, understood and felt the real meaning of Christmas, please guide and bless us to understand what Thanksgiving means. Help us to offer up to You a heart felt and sincere thank You for the blessings You have bestowed on us. Help us to look around and see the people, comforts and blessings that bring us peace and joy.

May we all experience Your peace and joy this Thanksgiving. Help us to take a few minutes each day to prepare our hearts. Let this Thanksgiving be a time of forgiveness, of reconciliation and restoration of any divisions. Bless and guide each of us to take the “high road” in our relationships and interactions with others. Remind me personally, that for as good of a friend I can be, I can also be as cold and indifferent to people I don’t know of get along with. Without taking a few minutes of honest reflection, I’m not sure I would have prayed for that, nor admitted that is a shortcoming area of mine.

Please bless our reflection and prayer time this week and send Your Holy Spirit upon us to shine a warming light into our areas that need unthawing. In the Mighty Name of Jesus I pray and ask these things; Amen.
