Holy Week, The Chosen, A new way to pray

Yesterday, I saw the second episode of The Chosen in the theatre. Jesus and the apostles are in Jerusalem for Holy Week. In one part, the sit for the Passover Seder and they pray together.

I am not Jewish, and openly admit I am not aware of many of their prayers, customs or ways. During the Passover Seder in the movie, the said a prayer that thanked and acknowledged God for a series of kindnesses he showed the Israelites, and after each verse they would respond; “it would have been enough”.

I was moved and grasped this idea with my whole heart. I have already started thinking about this idea and praying in this way. I’ll pray here as an idea of another way to pay and ask our Jewish friends to not be offended if I do not bring honor to the tradition.

Dear Father God,

I recently heard of the Passover Seder prayer and it has moved my heart. My heart, life and past, as well as my future are a series of Kindnesses You have performed for me. I humbly attempt to pray in this tradition to thank You for Your kindnesses.

If it was just for letting Milo and Delia to be my earthly parents; it would have been enough.

If it was just for having them bring me up in the church and teaching me right and wrong, the power of prayer and belief in You; it would have been enough.

If it was just that they raised me in a Christian school and the nuns taught us right and wrong and gave us a great educational foundation; it would have been enough.

If it was just that I was blessed with three of my grandparents in my life to love, teach and mentor me; it would have been enough.

But, the history of my life is nothing but a long and continuous series of kindnesses You have performed for me.

I ask for Your wisdom and guidance as I learn to pray this way and ask for Your patience and mercy as try to do honor to You and the tradition and may all of my days end with the prayer and praise.

“IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH”

In the Mighty and Holy Name of Jesus I pray and ask these things; Amen.
