For we know neither the day nor the hour 11-25-24
Yesterday I attended a visitation at a funeral parlor for a friend’s mother who passed unexpectedly. I think the family was still almost in shock and processing their sudden loss. I thought all day and again this morning how quickly and suddenly our earthly time may come to a close. I pray;
Dear Heavenly Father;
We thank You for each and every moment we spend here on our earthly adventure. We are born, we grow up, we make plans, find a career, find a partner to share life with and we become busy with the life we have built. During this process, we pray that You are part of all our plans, all of our decisions and that we rely upon You for guidance and direction.
Help ensure that, “life” doesn’t become our focus, rather than on serving You and seeking Your will. There is much to be learned from those who lives are devoted to service, service of God, service to church and community and service to family. Let those who follow and provide these examples become our mentors and teachers. Too often, we admire the wrong role models for reasons of fame and fortune, rather than those who toil, give, suffer and share.
Help us to always be ready, for only You know the day and the hour. help us to embrace Your Word and Your teaching. Help these words to penetrate our souls and guide our thoughts, actions and deeds. Help us always be prepared to end our earthly existence and to seek Your kingdom and Your righteousness as we live our days.
Please help me to correct the wrongs I may have pending. Help me to restore any relationship that needs repair. Help to seek and offer forgiveness where it is needed. Give me the wisdom and guidance to ensure my house is in order.
In the Mighty Name of Jesus we pray and ask these things; Amen.
