Selfish Prayer 11-3-2024

Last night, I went to the Dallas Jenkins movie. “The Greatest Christmas Pageant Ever”. There was a cute little scene in the movie where a little girl prays to God out loud, starting her prayer with, “Dear God, I know this is a selfish prayer, but…….”

It was cute, and yet I am still reflecting on it yet today? What’s up with this thought? I think it’s the honesty of the little girl in her prayer and conversation with God. I pray this morning for the same purity and honesty of my youth in all things, especially my prayers.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please help me to come to you in prayer as openly and honestly as possible. You know my thoughts, my ideas, my heart and my desires. Some are wholesome and good and help to emphasize these in all my daily efforts. And, some are selfish. Some are greedy? Some are unkind? Maybe even some are mean?

Help me to offer up to You all in prayer. Provide Your guidance, mercy and grace in the areas that need Your intercession. Allow me to be as a child before You, open to all that I am, and open to all that You are. Provide Your Holy Spirit to intercede in the areas of my life that need Your love, Your kindness and Your grace.

Help me, day by day, to move forward in Your grace and in Your ways. Please Good Shepherd, look for me on the days and paths that I get lost and go astray. Help me to be attune to Your guidance and hear and correct when I go astray.

Thank You Father for hearing my prayer and providing the grace and guidance I need. In the Mighty Name of Jesus I pray and ask these things; Amen.
